The Party Place_Event Space Ideas Near the Pearl District of NW Portland-2

Some event venue guides provide just enough information to learn about square footage and capacity. We will provide that too, but when you are choosing a venue you may want to learn more about its character and atmosphere.

This is a three-part series where we highlight some of our favorite venues we have worked with and highlight the character of each place. We will start with NW Portland in and near the Pearl District, then some other options near downtown Portland, and finally we will cap off the series with venues outside of town.

What is the Pearl District?

According to The Pearl District Business Association, the Pearl District was once a neglected corridor of abandoned warehouses and railways with hidden galleries and artist lofts. Once referred to as the Northwest Industrial Triangle, Thomas Augustine, a gallery owner suggested a new name to describe the neighborhood better. He felt, “[the] industrial buildings were like crusty oysters and that the galleries and artists’ lofts within were like pearls,” and thus worthy being named after a lifelong friend who introduced him to Portland, Pearl Marie Amhara. She was a lifelong advocate for women’s rights, as well as a supporter of art and music, and led workshops in Portland.

Now the Pearl District is easily one of the most desirable neighborhoods attracting the best chefs, restaurants, art galleries, shops and boutiques. Here our some of our favorite Pearl District/NW Portland venues in alphabetical order.

Castaway

Out of the gate this venue has won Oregon Bride Best two years in a row and BRIDES Best venue of 2017. It right on the edge of the Pearl District and only a few blocks from the Willamette River. The reviews from other planners highlight the sheer size and multiple configuration options. With two double doors it is easy to get your event equipment in out quick an easily. The painstakingly restored industrial look with  14′ foot ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and striking sash steel windows add to the atmosphere and create a great backdrop for any theme. They also have an outside patio with available garden space.

The Eleanor

The Eleanor is an urban space that is quintessential Portland and is named after Eleanor Chown of Chown Hardware. The focal point is its ceiling, a dramatic natural wood bow truss that takes you back to when even warehouses were works of art. Right outside its doors, it boasts the heart of the Pearl district. Its proximity to freeways and downtown provides great access.

The Eleanor gives you a wide open 5,000 square foot space, with two bathrooms, a storage/food prep room and a small closet. The space comfortably handles about 150 people for a seated dinner or about 250 for a standing event.

Urban Studio

This is a contemporary event space in a historic corner building. This building has been a staple since the early 1900s when it was occupied by the Denby Motor Truck Company. The space maintains some of its former warehouse features with large windows, exposed ceilings, and an open floor plan. A garage door opens to the sidewalk on NW 10th Ave with the Portland Streetcar just steps away.

An extremely flexible floor plan with a sunken banquet room. The bar separates the banquet room from the reception area, perfect for transitioning from one event to another.
